Our Pedagogy
We have adopted a Family Grouping pedagogy across our nursery. This approach means that children transition into groups based on their individual readiness, rather than their age alone. By doing this, we are able to truly follow each child’s unique developmental journey and ensure they move forward at a pace that is right for them.
Family Grouping reflects the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) principle that every child develops differently and should be supported through meaningful, responsive interactions.
To help us do this effectively, we have organised our nursery into three broad developmental groups that align with the key EYFS stages.
- Babies
- Toddlers
- Pre-School
These groups provide structure while still allowing full flexibility—for example, a child may be ready to move into the next group earlier or later than their peers, depending on their personal development.
This approach ensures that:
- Children experience consistency and secure relationships with educators who understand their individual needs.
- Transitions happen naturally and confidently, reducing stress for children and families.
- Educators can tailor learning experiences to each child’s stage of development, rather than expectations based only on age.
