Nursery Bag Checklist
What to pack in your child’s nursery bag
- Child’s Backpack - Provide a small, clearly identifiable backpack (named or distinctive). This will store your child’s belongings.
- Nappy Cream - Nappy cream is not supplied due to hygiene and infection control procedures. Parents must provide a clearly labelled cream for their child.
- Spare Clothing - Pack 2–3 full sets of spare clothes (e.g. leggings, joggers, tracksuits). Clothing should be comfortable, weather-appropriate and suitable for active play.
- Outdoor & Waterproof Clothing - Suitable outdoor clothing is required, including a waterproof coat and trousers, and wellies or waterproof boots. In colder months, snowsuits are recommended, particularly for non-mobile babies.
- Sun Protection - A sun hat is required during warmer months.
- Labeling - All clothing and personal items must be clearly labelled with your child’s name to prevent loss.

Settling in Sessions
To support a smooth transition into nursery, we offer three planned settling-in sessions. These sessions begin at approximately 1–2 hours in duration and gradually increase in length as your child becomes more familiar with the environment, routines and staff.
The three sessions are typically arranged within one week prior to your child’s official start date. The structure and pacing of these sessions will take into account your child’s age, stage of development and previous childcare experience.
Parents are warmly welcomed to stay with their child during the initial sessions to help them feel secure while building relationships with their key person and the wider team. This also provides valuable time for communication, allowing us to gather important information about your child’s routines, preferences, comforters, interests and any individual needs.
These introductory sessions are key to establishing trust, supporting emotional wellbeing and ensuring a positive start to nursery life for both child and parent.
