Job Specification
Purpose of the Role
To deliver exceptional early years education and care that supports each child’s learning, wellbeing, and development. Early Years Educators play a key role in creating a safe, inspiring, and nurturing environment where children can thrive while upholding Bright Start Nursery’s values, policies, and high standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver High-Quality Teaching & Learning
- Plan, prepare, and deliver stimulating learning experiences based on children’s interests and developmental needs.
- Implement the EYFS curriculum effectively across all areas of learning and development.
- Use a range of teaching strategies, open-ended resources, and purposeful play to extend children’s learning.
- Support children’s language development through high-quality interactions, modelling vocabulary, and encouraging communication.
2. Observation, Assessment & Planning
- Carry out accurate observations of children’s learning using approved systems (e.g., Famly).
- Record progress, identify next steps, and contribute to individual learning plans.
- Work with the team to plan high-quality activities and continuous provision enhancements.
- Participate in regular planning meetings and contribute ideas confidently.
3. Safeguarding & Welfare
- Maintain an unwavering commitment to safeguarding and follow all procedures rigorously.
- Identify and report concerns immediately in line with nursery policy.
- Ensure the environment is safe, clean, and risk assessed throughout the day.
- Promote children’s health and wellbeing through safe supervision, hygiene practices, and emotional support.
4. Building Positive Relationships
- Develop nurturing, respectful relationships with children that support secure attachments.
- Build strong partnerships with parents through daily communication and regular updates.
- Model professional behaviour at all times and support colleagues respectfully.
5. Environment, Routines & Organisation
- Set up and maintain purposeful, inviting learning areas and continuous provision.
- Follow routines (mealtimes, toilet training, sleep, transitions) calmly and consistently.
- Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and resource management throughout the day.
6. Professional Conduct & Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with room leaders and colleagues to ensure consistency in practice.
- Attend staff meetings, training, and supervisions as required.
- Reflect on practice and seek opportunities for development.
- Follow all nursery policies including confidentiality, safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities, and behaviour management.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Early Years qualification (or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of the EYFS and child development.
- Experience working in a nursery or early years setting.
- Understanding of safeguarding and commitment to children’s welfare.
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and children.
- Ability to work as part of a team and use initiative.
Desirable Requirements
- Paediatric First Aid qualification.
- SEND experience or training.
- Experience using digital learning journals.
- Additional training in child development, behaviour support, or early communication.
