Job Specification
Purpose of the Role
To lead the day-to-day practice within a room, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and care. The Room Leader supports the team, oversees planning, and ensures the environment meets the developmental needs of all children.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership of Room Practice
- Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of EYFS activities.
- Guide and support practitioners in delivering outstanding interactions.
- Model best practice and set clear expectations for your room team.
- Oversee routines including meals, sleep, toileting, and transitions.
2. Observation, Assessment & Curriculum
- Ensure accurate observations and assessments are completed.
- Use children’s interests to shape planning and continuous provision.
- Track progress and identify additional support needs.
3. Safeguarding & Welfare
- Maintain a safe environment and complete regular checks.
- Report concerns promptly following safeguarding procedures.
- Support children’s emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour.
4. Communication & Teamwork
- Communicate clearly and professionally with parents.
- Lead daily team briefings and weekly planning meetings.
- Support new staff and apprentices within the room.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Early Years qualification.
- Strong EYFS knowledge and experience leading activities.
- Ability to lead a small team confidently.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience as a senior practitioner.
- SEND or behaviour support training.
